I had a great day today --- after running some errands, I took a look at the clearest, bluest sky we've had in northeast Tennessee since the beginning of the New Year.
Noting that the weather report was calling for another deep freeze weekend, I drove over to nearby Cumberland Gap National Historic Park just across the state line in Middlesboro, Kentucky. I drove up to The Pinnacle, which is a mountain overlook where you can see three states --- from left to right in the picture, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. The town is Cumberland Gap, Tennessee.
Afterwards, I went down to the floor of the Gap Park and went for a power walk in brisk air and bright sunshine. The creek that runs down through the center of the park was high and there were lots of ripples and mini-water falls. It felt great, swinging my arms and just getting outside.
A lot of stress builds up in the winter. People spend too much time indoors and too much time on their computers. Cabin fever makes a lot of people nuts. Can't imagine how the pioneers who settled this area dealt with it --- no TV, no Internet, no radio.
They must have embraced days like this as a true blessing.
